About alpacas
Alpacas are gentle intelligent creatures that are hugely rewarding to own. Each has its own distinct personality and you will certainly get to know them as individuals. They are not generally difficult to look after and UK vets are becoming increasingly accustomed to them.
The females produce one baby (cria) a year after a gestation period of typically 345 days, being ready to re-mate two weeks later. Births are normally straight forward but it makes sense to be on hand in case your precious female has any difficulty.
Young males (especially wethers) can be kept in small numbers whereas females must be in a group of at least three – they are social animals who are stressed if isolated.
